It is without a doubt that the horror movie genre is the most influential and iconic movie genres that has ever existed. It’s safe to say that scary movies has single handily influenced the music we listen to everyday, the ideas and myths we believe, and the clothing we wear. For example, Nicki Minaj’s verse on Kanye West’ Monster. “And I’ll say, bride of Chucky, it’s Child’s Play Just killed another career, it’s a mild day” or on Drake’s 6 Man. “I’m on it, I’m like MacGyver, I’m Michael Myers I kill careers and cut the lights off, this **** is frightenin’ I knew it would end up like this, I’m ******’ psychic”. These are just two examples of it played out in music. Horror movies have also made an appearance to mainstream clothing stores such as Urban Outfitters, Zumiez, and H&M. Horror movies also influence our beliefs and superstitions, for example Friday The 13th is a haunted day, or the fear of crossing a black cat which comes from the horror fiction The Black Cat. These are just small examples of horror movies in our everyday lives. I now challenge you to look for horror movie references in your every day lives but to do that you will need to watch a few. ” But wait Jarius, I’m scared of horror movies.” Well that’s okay there are many horror movies that actually aren’t scary. Although this may be kind of subjective, here is a list of movies I believe aren’t that scary and are actually watchable. Pet Sematary, Child’s Play, The Dentist, Chopping Mall, Final Destination, Leprechaun, ThanksKilling, and Get Out. These are just a few and like I said I know it’s subjective but I seriously believe that anyone can watch these without being too scared. ” But wait Jarius, I don’t have time to watch all of these movies.” Well luckily you can watch a kill count on these movies by Dead Meat. Dead Meat is a horror movie channel focused on summing up the amount of kills in a horror movie while providing a brief summary of the movie. He advises not to watch kill counts in replacement of watching the movies, but if you seriously are low on time a kill count will never do you wrong. In the meantime, comment below what’s your favorite horror movie and why?
